about 1755 in New England, USA. According to "The Genealogical Dictionary
of Maine and N. H". Rose#1 married to John Pinkham is listed as MARTHA.The
Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire by Sybil Noyes, Charles Libby
and Walter Goodwin Davis, Page 521 states that the Otis Genealogy followed by"
Miss Coleman" called the wife of John Pinkham " ROSE" without
quoting any documents or authority for doing so, instead of " MARTHA"
WHICH WAS HER NAME IN FACT and, therefore Miss Coleman concluded that Rose Poitevin,
(Francoise-Rose,{ROSE#2}) must have been a grand-daughter of Richard Sr. Otis
instead of a daughter from his second marriage to Anna Shuah-Starbuck. Miss Coleman
mentioned above was Emma Coleman who published a famous work in 1925 called
" New England Captives Carried to Canada" . So it appears that Richard
Sr. Otis' daughter married to John Pinkham was indeed called MARTHA. Seeing
that many genealogists obtained information from Miss Coleman's work, MARTHA
is more often than not, referred to as ROSE .The Genealogy of the Canadian Branch
of the the Otis family by Gerard Malchelosse also refer to MARTHA as ROSE, therefore
I am listing her as Rose#1(Martha). I must point out however that miss Coleman
was correct in stating that Francoise Rose who married Jean Potvin was the grand-daughter
of Richard Sr. Otis as Francoise Rose's marriage contract No. 193062 dated Oct
29 1696 drawn up before Notary M. Duprac of Beauport states that Francoise Rose's
parents are indeed Steven Otis and Marie Otis, her mother. Parents:
