73. DR JOHN RHINE ADAMS
was born on
9 Dec 1839 in GOODLAND, IRON CO, MO. He died in 1932. He was buried in MT
PLEASANT CEMETARY, GOODLAND, IRON CO, MO. John R Adams was the sixth son of
Nelson Adams. In 1854 he drove an ox team and cart along with several others
carrying supplies to sell or trade for what was needed on the farm He drove
through Potosi, Hillsboro and then followed the LeMay Ferry road, forded the
Meramec River by swimming the cattle, and then on to St Louis which was quite
a town for a country boy of fifteen to see. He served in the Civil War,Union
Army, under General Grant and after the first year of his service he became disabled
and was sent to the Washington Hospital at Memphis, TN. In a short time he was
made medical nurse under Dr Sharp who became interested in him and encouraged
him to study medicine.
After the war John was married to DeLacy Ann Mason. They were parents of
ten children. DeLacy died in 1883 in childbirth. John then married Margaret
Woods. John was licensed in 1874 to practice medicine and was active in this
profession until his death in 1932. At one time he was the oldest practicing
doctor in the United States. He also served many years as Postmaster at Goodland.
He was married to DELACCEY MASON on 1 Jan 1866 in IRON CO, MO. SISTER TO
DAVID'S WIFE DR JOHN RHINE ADAMS and DELACCEY MASON had
