1. Slave STRICKLAND (1) was born in 1809 in Comer(Madison County), GA. He died in Comer(Madison County), GA. Kinchen Strickland was born in North Carolina and moved to Georgia in 1805.In 1814 he purchased land on Hodges Creek in Madison County, Georgia. When and where he first purchased slaves is unkown.Mopre than likely he purshased slaves shortly after purchasing land.Since it is known that William and his siblings were born on his plantation, their parents were probably among those he purchased.
The 1850 slave census shoes he had 18 slaves.10 males ages 67yrs to 1 month,3 female ages 43 to 27 yrs, and 5 mulatto ages 16 yrs to 2 yrs(for some reason no gender was given for the mulattos.
The 1860 slave census shows only 11 slaves and 1 belonging to his son Kinchen M,for a total of 12.
There were 7 males ages 59 yrs to 6 yrs, with a 31 year old male belonging to the son,and 5 females ages 53 to 8 yrs(only one slave is listed as mulatto a 9 year old male.It is a safe bet that Kinchen fathered the mulatto slaves, since our family legend speaks of him selecting various female slaves for his pleasure.
