(15) He died on 7 Jul 1938 in Bayard, Morrill County, NE. (16) He was a in farming. He age at death (2) in 76 yrs. old. George Washington was born in Ridgeway, Iowa County, WI. . George came to Nebraska sometime before 1892. George and Anna farmed in Wayne, Wayne County, NE. and that is where their three children were born. The family moved to Bayard in 1910. George purchased 160 acres from the Union Pacific Railroad 1 1/2 miles from town. He came out first and built the house, out buildings, and the barn (that still stands). Anna, and the three children and their household belongings came to Bayard on the train. They journeyed the mile and half north by team and wagon. When they came up over the hill, Anna thought the countryside looked so bleak, sandy and desolate she wanted to turn around and go right back to Eastern Nebraska, but in a few months time she felt it was her home and never again wanted to leave. George was prominent in Bayard farming, school and civic affairs.

He always farmed with horses, and although he eventually owned an automobile, he preferred to have his sons or son-in-law drive him---he was more comfortable with animals than mechanical things. They planted a fruit orchard just north of the house, that was there for many years, and always had a huge garden. George had a fine herd of registered Duroc-Jersey hogs as well as registered milking Shorthorns.

The children attended school in Bayard, usually walking (Summer & Winter) and later on Edna and Dewey rode burros. The first school they attended was in the "Old Pink Schoolhouse", a large two frame building that had to be braced on three sides because it shook so bad in the wind.

George and Anna continued to farm until his death July 7, 1938, when he was 76 years of age. Anna sold the farm in 1943 and moved to Bridgeport, NE where she lived near her daughter Edna, passing away May 7, 1956. Both are buried in the Bayard Cemetery in Bayard, Morrill County, NE.
