Moses Miller (b. 1777, d. 1857)
Moses Miller (son of George Miller and Elizabeth Braxton)14 was born 1777 in Pa.14, and died 1857 in Illinois. He married (1) Mary (Polly)Whitson on 31 Jan 1804 in Adair Co. Ky. by John White. He married (2) Mary Eve Cornelius,Moody,Miller on 21 Mar 1814 in Adair Co. Ky. by H. Winfrey.

Born 1770-1780 or 1777 or 1786 Green Co. KY. See also #9284 Since
his 1830 enumeration indicated birn 1780-90 and 1840 enumeration
indicated 1770-1780 it is reasonable to conclude that he was born in
1780.
1802 tax list Adair Co. KY: one white male 21 or more
Married 31 Jan 1804 or 2 Feb 1804 to Mary "Polly" Whitson. They were
married by John White in Adair Co. KY. It was attested to by Jacob Whitson
and Henry Miller. Witness was Moses or Elijah (sic) Miller. She
the daughter of Thomas. She possibly the sister of Patience married to
his brother Adam. Several Whitsons in the Rock Creek Baptist Church of
Keokuk Co. IA, even one a Mary but this one must have died because he
married again in 1814.
Marriage bond 31 Jan 1804 Adair Co. KY kept by family.
1804 Aug 12 his brother Henry Miller married Elizabeth Lelvingston and
it was attested to by Moses Miller and Elijah Miller.
1805 tax list Adair Co. KY : 10001
1807 tax list Adair Co. KY: 120 acres entered under the name of Isaac
Mason: 10001. He follows his brother Adam Miller on this tax list.
1811, March 22 in Adair Co. KY an Isorey Miller married by H. G.
Waggoner to Eva Moody (Js he and the following Listing the same person)
1813 tax list Adair Co. KY: one white male over 21
1814 tax list Adair Co. KY: 1002
Mary must have died by 1814, 21 March when he married Mrs. Eva Moody.
They were married by H. G. Waggoner in Adair Co. KY.
Mary Eva/Eve was mother to Betsy who was married to David Miller, a
brother of Moses and the mother of Sarah the wife of Aaron Miller, also a
brother of Moses. That made her a sister-in-Iaw to her daughters. It
also made Moses Miller a step father to her two daughters and meant
that Moses besides being a brother to David and Aaron was also their
.brother-in-law and father-in-Iaw.
1816, Sept 15 Betsy Moody married David Miller. She step-daughter to
Aaron Miller attested to by Moses Miller
1818 IL state census Madison Co. (David Miller there too) Moses Miller:
1 male 21 & upwards and 8 others :
1820 Moses Miller in Madison Coo IL: one male over 21 and 7 others. On
that same page are David Miller, Jacob Miller, Solomon Miller and James
Miller, all but James known brother's names.
1829, Sept 4, Moses patented 80 acres E 1/ SE 9 section 17 -6-2 now
owned by Moses 22 112 acres and Marshall Duncan 57 112 acres.
1829, Sept 30 Moses Miller Sen. owned 10 acres patented by John Duncan E
112 NE 30 section 17-6-1. Chris Mosteller owns the other 70 acres
patented by John Duncan.
1829, Nov 26th his land on the MenardlSangamon county line
1830 federal census Sangamon co. Il.
Moses Miller age 40-50 (born 1780-1790), one female 5-10, and one female
50-60 (born 1770-1780)
1830, May 14 Indenture where Moses Miller and Eve Miller his wife of
Sangamon county of the one part and Marshall Duncan of the county and
state aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said Moses Miller and Eve Miller his
wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars sold the
south east quarter of section 19 twp 17 north range 6 west of the 3rd ,
principal meridian containjng one hundred and sixtyacres etc (I have a
copy of this sent to me by Margaret Kilpatrick) She also sent me a twp
range model and showed where Moses, David, Aaron, George, James,
Jacob, Solomon, owned land.
1830, act 26th Moses sold to Marshall Duncan SE114 section 19 Twp 17N
range 6 West which is 160 acres
1830, Oct 26th Moses sold to Christopher Mostetter part of NE section
30 twp 27N range 6 west which was 10 acres
1832, Sept 26 Moses and Eve his wife and others of the family all in IL
sold to "our brother Adam Miller" land in Russell Co. KY (bk B p 309). This
is recorded in deed book B page 309 26 Sept 1838 in Russell Co. KY. For a
valuable consideration in hand paid we do sell convey and grant to Adam
Miller, our brother, the following tract of land lying and being in Adair
Co. KY, 127 acres part of a 200 acre survey patented to our father,
George Miller, dec'd, by the Green Co. Ky Court by certificate #194 patent
dated 10 Feb 1809 all our right title and interest as heirs of o
deceased father, George Miller. (see bro. Henry's notes for whole thing)
1835 Sangamon Co. IL tax list. E112SE 19 T17N R95W original
patentee Moses Miller on 4 Sept 1829. Present owners: Moses Miller
owns 22112 acres and Marshall Duncan owns 57112 acres. Also E112NE
30 T17N R06W original patentee: John Duncan on 30 Sept 1829. Present
owners: Christopher Mosteller has 70 acres and Moses Miller
has 10 acres.
1840 Sangamon Co. IL census (He follows Moses Jr. on census
males: one age 15-20 and one age 60- 70 (born 1770-1780)
females: one age 60-70 (a researcher say the 15-20 yr old is a female)

1842: This indenture made this twelfth day of February in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two between Moses Miller Senior
of the County of Sangamon and State of Illinois and John Sackett
of the same place.
Witnesseth that the said Moses Miller inconsideration of the debt of
sum of eight hundred --to him in hand pay --by John Sackett. Before
the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof the said Moses Miller
doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold and by these
presents doth grant bargain and sell unto John Sackett his heirs or
assigns a lot or parcel of land containing thirty two and half acres being
a part of the SE qtr of sec. 30 containing 10 acres also 22 112 acres of
the South part of the SE qtr of section 19 in twp 17 N Range 6 W & in the
aforesaid county and state. To have all the right title and claim of him
the said Moses Miller to the said premises to have and to hold the
presmises hereby granted with all the appurtenances unto him the said
John Sacket his heirs and assigns forever.
Provided nevertheless and it is the sure intent of these presents that
William R. Miller son of the above bound Moses Miller (for whom he Moses
Miller is bound in the sum of ..800 dollars) doth make or schedule a
deed for a certain tract of land containing twenty eight acres or it more
Dr Jess which the said John Sackett hoJds a titJe bond for with twenty
more acres which is satisfied the land lying and being in the aforesaid
county on or before the first day of May next then and in that case the
above deed to be null and void otherwise to remain in full force and
virtue in law.
In testimony whereof I set my hand and seal the day and year above
written

Before me the undersigned J.P. personally came Moses Miller Senr
who are known to me to be the real person by whom and in whose name
the above mortage deed of conveyance is proposed to be acknowledged and
acknowledged that of his free will that he executed said deed for the
purposes therein expressed. Given under my hand and seal this twevth
dayof February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ~,~'

1857 a Moses Miller in Bethel cemetery, Hancock Co. Illinois. He died in
the 87th years of his life making it the approximate age we have for his
birth. (Margaret Kilpatrick) This would make him born 1770.
There is no probate for Moses or Eve Miller in Sangamon county
courthouse (researcher Sandra Stewart SheJJhammer) She found no
probate records in Menard county courthouse either.
Margaret said that she found a Moses Miller in Bethel Cem. Hancock Co. IL
beside Charles Bettesworth, the Rev. War soldier. Charles Bettesworth
had lived in Adair Co. KY. Margaret remembers her mother saying that
they were related to the Bettesworths but at that time Margaret was not
interested in genealogy.
