FOURTEENTH GENERATION

3030. Dr. Cloyce E. ODOM was born on Nov 19 1928 in Maynard, Arkansas. Since I have been the editor (not author, as many people have contributed) of this work I shall speak in the first person.
I grew up in the North East corner of the State of Arkansas, in a little town called Reyno. Later moved to Corning, about 12 miles away. From here was drafted into the USMC and sent to San Diego, CA. Hence the California connection in 1952. Discharged in 1954 and returned to Arkansas, to Searcy to attend College with a wife and a 3 year old daughter. Worked part time all through College. Graduated in 1957, moved to Tampa, Florida, where Kevin was born, and ASAP moved back to Santa Ana, CA. Obtained employment at Hughes Aircraft , Fullerton, CA. for 7.5 years. Took Controllership position at Stanton Community Hospital, then moved to Palm Harbor Hospital then to the Los Angeles area hospitals. In Los Angeles was appointed as Administrator of 2 smaller hospitals, then took a position in the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital as Administrator. Accepted Administrative and Chief Executive Officer of Ridgecrest Community Hospital in Ridgecrest, California. Went to Cairo Egypt, as a Chief Financial Officer of a 350 bed Hospital as a Team Member for a short time. Administered to the small hospital in Mammoth for one year and retired. Started own business in Computer Consulting in Riverside, CA. for 10 years before retiring again, in Sun City.
During early school days, my Father, Buford, decided farming was not for him, so he bought a pool hall / restaurant type establishment and started his own business. From there he purchased a small Grocery Store, a Mom & Pop type business, which was very popular during those years. The store grew into a larger store during high school years, and upon graduation I became associated in the business. After several years the store was turned into a furniture store for a short time, and sold.
Purchase was made of a Wholesale Distributor Feed and Seed house in Corning. Moved to Corning and operated 3 trucks. Drafted into USMC, sold business, Dad bought other truck , then sold it and started a "Novelty Store" in Corning, that he and Mom could handle. I had moved back to California, with 2 children and working at Hughes Aircraft Co. Inc. I received a message one day that my Father, Buford, had been killed in an automobile accident near Farmington, MO. Returned to Corning for funeral, sold his house, business, etc. and moved Mom to Calif. Mom eventually remarried. Harvey Wiser was a good husband for 20 years, and died. Mom now in Sun City with me.
Married Laura Anita Johnson in 1947, had 2 children, Kathy, born in Corona, Ca. in 1953, while in USMC. , and Kevin in Florida, in 1957, after graduating college. Good marriage and family for 20 + years. Anita ran a Beauty Shop and became in her opinion, the head of the Family, and soon was the family director. She developed the negativity that her father displayed in his later years. That still remains with her. The marriage ended in divorce.
Remarried after several years, to Irene who currently is still the positive spark that makes things happen and people go. (1995-7). Am currently trying to put this family history together in some form that my descendants will know how we existed, when that time comes, for those who care.
