2538. Martha D. SWINDLE was born on Mar 24 1942.

She was married to Dr. Charles M. ABERNATHY (son of C. M. "Doc" ABERNATHY) in 1964. Dr. Charles M. ABERNATHY was born on Feb 3 1941 in Albuqerque, Valencia Co., New Mexico. He died on Mar 24 1994 in Denver, Denver Co., CO. Dr. Abernathy was a 1959 graduate of Highland High School. He began pre medical studies at Colorado University the same year and went on to complete his medical degree at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago.

he returned to Colorado to finish his internship and residency in surgery at what is now University Hospital (then Gen Colorado General Hospital) in Denver.

Dr. Abernathy was named outstanding intern in 1967, and he went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Boston Children's Hospital in 1869 and 1970. He then became an assistant in Colorado University's surgery department in 1970 and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1970 to 1973. He served one term (1983-89) on the University's Board of Regents, and was chairman in 1986-87.

In addition to serving as a surgery department professor, he headed the surgical oncology program at Denver General Hospital. Martha D. SWINDLE and Dr. Charles M. ABERNATHY had the following children:
