Stephen Busby and his wife Betsy Elizabeth had come to Alabama from S.C. around
1828 and entered government land at the confluence of Lost Creel and the Warrior
River. They owned over 700 acres of land and farmed on a large scale. Stephen
became the first in Walker Co. to mine coal from the creek and riverbeds. He
also owned a grain mill and a cotton gin, mainly to handle his own large scale
farming needs. Stephen fell from a fodder stack on his farm and died in 1860.
Steven was Irish Descent settled in S.C. during colonial days. Came to Alabama
abt 1828. Betsy Elizabeth SWINDLE and Stephen BUSBY had the following children:
