He died on Jul 11 1911 in Oakman, Walker Co., Alabama. He was buried in New Hope Cemetery, Walker Co., Alabama. Enlisted at Watt's Mill, on Cane Creek, northwest of Oakman, on 05/1861 as Private Co. K 15th Ala. Cav. under Captain Hutto. He was later transferred to Co. K, 4th Al. Cav. under Captain Kelley, and still later to Co. B, 10th Al. Cav. where he served till the end of the war..
John Holly owned 28 acres in Walker Co., Al. On 01/10/1928 the value of the property was $170.00. He reported income of about $20.00 per year. He also reported owning no personnel property.

He was married to Lucinda (Lucindy) Cynthia GRACE (daughter of Daniel GRACE and Salina HILL) on Jul 24 1864 in Day's Gap, Walker Co., Alabama. Possible date of marriage is 07/28/1864 instead of 07/24/1864. Two different dates found on seperate documents. Lucinda (Lucindy) Cynthia GRACE was born on Dec 7 1848 in Georgia. She appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Census shows age as 32. She died on Oct 14 1928. She resided 701 Edith Street. 1880 census shows spelling of name as "Loucindy". John Holly SWINDLE and Lucinda (Lucindy) Cynthia GRACE had the following children:

872 i. Josephine SWINDLE was born in 1867. Not shown in 1880 census as living with family. Possibly not John and Licindy's child.
873 ii. John P. SWINDLE was born on Apr 12 1868. Possible birth year abt 1880, The 188 census shows age as 2/12 or two months. It is possible researcher picked up age s 12 and showed birth as 1868. (?) He appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Census shows age as 2/12. I do not understand 2/12 notation. He died on Oct 28 1897.
874 iii. Lovonia SWINDLE was born about 1869 in Alabama. She appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Census shows age as 11.
875 iv. Delelea SWINDLE was born about 1871 in Alabama. She appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Census shows age as 9. Shows spelling of name as "Delela".
876 v. Loula SWINDLE was born about 1873 in Alabama. She appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Loula was shown on 1860 census but not listed as a child of John Holly in the "Swindle Book".
877 vi. Annice SWINDLE was born about 1877. He (or she) appeared on the census in 1880 in Walker Co., Alabama. Census shows age as 3.
