Charles Wilbur Gould (b. January 23, 1828, d. April 1917)

Charles Wilbur Gould (son of Samuel Gould and Patience Wilbur) was born January 23, 1828 in North Adams Massachusetts, and died April 1917 in Elgin, Illinois. He married (1) Sarah Jane Barrett on February 19, 1857 in Hanover, Cook, County, Illinois. He married (2) Mariette Hunting on November 20, 1858 in Elk Grove, Illinois.

Charles Wilbur started out with a simple dairy farm in Hanover, Cook County, Illinois and ended up owning creameries in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. All were run by relatives . He also owned a door and sash company. After Borden's under sold him and made him lose many of his creameries in Ill. he still had some in Iowa and had his door and sash compasny. He owed $200,000, which was a large sum in it's day, but he sold his lake home and some companies and paid his creditors every cent. He made the headlines in the Chicago for his honesty.
