Adam Templeton, of Scottish descent, arrived in New England from Ireland about 1735. About 1788, his descendants began removing to Vermont from New Hampshire.
Grandson John was one of the founders of Montpelier. Great grandson Joel (nephew of John) was one of the earliest settlers of Worcester, VT. Joel's sons distinguished themselves as soldiers (two served in the Civil war, my great grandfather, Robinson Templeton, as a Major), a lawyer, and civic leaders.

A grandson of Joel, Charles Freemont Templeton, was appointed to the Supreme Court of the Territory of North Dakota by President Grover Cleveland. The wife of the President (Fanny Folsom) was the third cousin of the mother of Charles Freemont.

Other families in which I'm interested include Simpson and Dodge. Alexander Simpson married Adam's sister, Jennat. They immigrated from Ireland together and lived near one another. John Templeton and Solomon Dodge married sisters and founded Montpelier.

Other families which married into the Templeton line include Lindsay, Morse, Austin, Davis, Mayo, and Folsom. On my mother's side, I'm interested in Barnes, Beam, Blakeney, Gardinier, Hosford, Lamb, Richardson, Riker, Shields, Van Woert, and Von Haverkampf. Most of these families were located in Connecticut or New York. Beam is also found in New Jersey.

I am glad to hear from anyone with interest in these families.
