He was baptised on 21 Jun 1790 in St.James, Piccadilly.(59) He lived at St.Marylebone in 1821.(59) He was a Baker and confectioner from 1821 to 1861. Variously called Baker, Biscuit Baker, Confectioner, Pastry Cook in Directories and PRs.

Listed in Robson's London directory as a confectioner 1826/7.
Piggotts London directory 1822/3 - listed under confectioners and pastry cooks - Henry Dietman, 56 Tottenham Court rd. Also listed is Thomas Dietman, 5 Swallow passage, Oxford st. In London trades Directory at 21 Bath Place, New st, Fitzroy Sq in 1844.

Business partner was John Jacob, who also lived with family.

The Times reported that he was a baker and confectioner at the corner of Hampstead Road in the Euston Road and that his business was ruined by the railway works there, forcing him to give up the lease and retire abt 1861. He developed dementia and died five years later. He was listed in a Post Office Directory at in 1822/23 in 56 Tottenham Court road. Piggotts directory. Confectioners & pastry cooks. He lived at 56 Tottenham Court Road from 1822 to 1827. (59) In Uncle's will. Acted as executor (Jacob Claus) He lived at Clerk's Place in 1830.(59) He lived at Hampstead Rd in 1839.(320) He was listed in a Post Office Directory at in 1841 in 21 Bath Place, New Rd, Regent's Park. Baker He appeared on the census on 6 Jun 1841 in 21 Bath Place, New Rd, Regent's Park.(8) Age 50. Baker. b.in County He appeared on the census on 30 Mar 1851 in 21 Bath Place, New Rd, Regent's Park. (8) Age 60. Biscuit baker. b.Middlesex, St. James. He was listed in a Post Office Directory at in 1852 in 21 Bath Place, New Rd, Regent's Park. Baker & Biscuit baker He appeared on the census on 7 Apr 1861 in 284 Euston Rd, London, NW.(8) Age 70. Biscuit baker. b.Westminster, St.James. He was listed in a Post Office Directory at in 1862 in 284 Euston Rd, London, NW. Baker & Biscuit baker He was involved in a court case in Oct 1864 in Sherriffs Court, Red Lion Square.(363) The Times refers to the case of "Dietman v the Metropolitan Railway" [claim for £600].
Daughter (Sarah) spoke of the business falling off when the railway arrived and her father's decline into ill health and dementia. They were forced to give up the lease. Henry was awarded £100 but died just two years later. Full newspaper report on file. He died on 21 May 1866 in 28 Crescent St, Pancras. (5) Death Certificate shows he died at 28 Crescent St as an annuitant. This was Ann Dietman's chandler's shop (probably his daughter Sarah Ann who looked after Henry and his brother John Jacob until their deaths and never got married, Henry's wife dying age 43. Dementia - 5 years He died intestate but Admon was recorded on 15 Nov 1876. Found at Somerset House:

"On the 15th day of November 1876 letters of administration of the personal estate of Henry Dietman late of 29 Crescent st Euston Rd Mddx Baker deceased who died 21 May 1866 at 29 Crescent St aforesaid a widower and intestate were granted at the principle registry of the probate division of the High Court of justice to Mary Howey (wife of William Howey) of 15 George St, Euston Rd, aforesaid the natural and lawful daughter and one of the next of kin of the said deceased she having been first sworn to administer. Effects under £20." Note: why the 10 year wait for a simple admon? Everyone seems to have waited until Henry Jacob (Henry's eldest son) died in 1875. Original receipt for utensils held in connection with "bunhouse".
He was married to Mary Ann KNOTT on 4 Jun 1815 in St.Georges, Hanover Square.. (59)

She died on 27 Feb 1839 in 21 Bath Place, New Rd, Regent's Park.(5) Age 43. 1.15 a.m., epileptic fits. She was buried on 3 Mar 1839 in St.Pancras Old Church.(59) Age 43, of Hampstead Rd Boyd's marriage index shows her as Mary Ann NOTT Children were:
