2880. John SADLER was born about 1663 in Litlington, Cambs. He was baptised on 17 Jan 1663/64 in Litlington, Cambs.^{(504) (59)} He died in 1722 in Litlington, Cambs. ⁽⁵⁹⁾ He was buried on 16 Dec 1722 in Litlington, Cambs. ⁽⁵⁹⁾ He was married to Mary SCRIPPS on 7 Apr 1685 in Steeple Morden, Cambs..⁽⁵⁸⁾ There are three versions of this event.

i) The "pre-1970" ancestral file submission shows John SADLER married Mary SKRIPS 7 April 1685, Litlington, Cambs.

ii) The Parish records for Litlington show John SADLER married Mary SCRIPS 7 April 1684 BUT the copy I looked at was only a transcript of the original register and I noticed there was a note by the transcriber to say that this particular entry was only found in the Bishop's Transcripts, not the original register

iii) The IGI shows John SADLER married Mary SCRIPPS 7April 1685 in Steeple Morden, Cambs.

My guess is that the marriage took place at Steeple Morden. I suspect that husband John was from Litlington though and as a result details of this marriage were added to the Litlington records sent to the Bishop by an over zealous clerk at a later date. There are probably banns of the marriage for Litlington which would make sense and it could be that the clerk copied incorrectly from the banns. As the BTs are a later submission it would also be easy for the year to be mistakenly entered. There are no other SKRIPS/SCRIPS/SCRIPPS families in Litlington before or after 1685 so I suspect that Mary lived in Steeple Morden before her marriage. Looks like a trip back to the Society of Genealogists for me as I notice they have a complete run of the registers of baptisms, marriages and burials for that parish. With luck I may find Mary's baptism there c1665. Steeple Morden is very close to Litlington and I notice that Abel SADLER also married there later. It's probably worth looking for all SADLER and SCRIPPS entries in that parish.

2881. Mary SCRIPPS was born about 1664 in Litlington, Cambs.⁽⁵⁰⁴⁾ She died in 1719 in Litlington, Cambs.⁽⁵⁹⁾ She was buried on 13 Oct 1719 in Litlington, Cambs.⁽⁵⁹⁾ Children were:

i. Mary SADLER was born about 1685 in Litlington, Cambs. She was baptised on 21 Feb 1685 in Litlington, Cambs.^{(504) (59)}
ii. John SADLER was born about 1687 in Bassingbourn, Cambs.. He was baptised on 27 Nov 1687 in Bassingbourn, Cambs..⁽⁵⁹⁾
iii. Richard SADLER was born about 1689 in Litlington, Cambs. He was baptised on 8 Sep 1689 in Litlington, Cambs.^{(504) (59)}
iv. Ann SADLER was born about 1691 in Litlington, Cambs. She was baptised on 6 Mar 1691 in Litlington, Cambs.^{(504) (59)}
