My Thompson ancestor, George Thompson, Sr. is the first entry in this family's history. He was first noted during his marriage to Rebecca Williams in Richmond County (Old Rappahannock County), Virginia in abt. 1675.
George's sons, George, Jr. and David, later moved to what is now Culpeper County, VA. There are probably more children of George, Srs. marriage to Rebecca Williams but I can only locate two at this time.
Later some of David's branch of the family moved south into Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. I have recently located some estranged family members in Georgia and Mississippi who have helped fill me in on the history of this branch of the family.
George, Jr's, line, of whom I'm a direct desendent, settled in the neighboring counties of Orange, Madison and Green of Virginia. Some of these family members later moved into what is now Pendleton and Pocahontas Counties of West Viginia and the Bath and Highland County areas of Virginia
One of these Thompson's later moved into Barbour County, West Virginia while much later my grandparents, Walter Tracy Thompson and his wife Fannie Susan Robertson, moved into the Harrison County area of the state in the late 1920's.
From this nuclear family my six uncles and three aunts moved on and settled throughout the nation. They settled along the west coast, the deserts of Arizona, the heart land, and up the eastern seaboard.
As far as I know, my second cousin, W. Edward Thompson of Biloxi, Mississippi and I are the only ones to move south along the Gulf Coast.
I was born in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virgina in 1948 before moving to Akron, Ohio in 1959 with my father and mother, Walter Lee "Monk" Thompson and Betty May Martin along with my sister, Sharon Kay.
In 1967 I married a beautiful Tennessee belle, Linda R. West, the daughter of Hobart W. West and Isa E. Dalton.
Later my family, which included my son, Martin W. Thompson and daughter, Misty Elise Thompson moved throughout the country first in Alabama. Then Arizona and later Oklahoma before returning to Alabama where we presently reside.
I am always seeking new relatives and information to fill in the holes in my research. Presently, I have been working on finding George, Srs. father and mother so that I might locate the area of Great Britian they left to come to the "New World."
With hopes that I might contact the family members my Fifth Great Grandfather left behind.
Anyone who has, no matter how slight, information which may help me, feel free to contact me about this situation. In return I will aid anyone who has problems whith their family history which I can possibly help you with.
Other surnames included in my family's history are, Ervine, Tracy, Rexroad, Robertson, Cochran, Crockett, Martin, Nay, McCartney, Harden and Wright. See my surname list for all the surnames in my family.
Thank you and God Bless,
Ron Thompson
