About Our Family Research

I am a Great Grandson of Thomas Tobin who was born in 1800, married Catherine Walsh(b.1794),and lived on a farming property at Grange, 5 miles from Clonmel, Co.Tipperary. Their family consisted of 9 children, 5 of whom migrated to Australia in the mid 1850s. Two others migrated to the east coast of USA (Boston area). Two others remained in Ireland.
I am researching the Boston connection, and the link to Maurice Tobin, Governor of Massachusetts, Secretary for Labor in President Truman's Cabinet. Maurice was the son of James Tobin who was the son of Irish immigrants.
On my mother's side, I am the Great Great Grandson of Lawrence Counsel and Mary Tierney of Stormanstown, Parish of Tallanstown, Co. Louth. Six of their 9 children migrated to Australia (Hobart, Tasmania in 1832 in the Ship "Norval".
James Monaghan Dooley from Co.Tipperary was born in 1822, married Alice Ainsworth in 1846, migrated to Hobart, Tasmania in 1855. He was also my maternal Great Grandfather. James was a surveyor and one of the first members of the Tasmanian Parliament. He died in 1891 amd is buried in Latrobe cemetery, Tasmania.
I will be pleased to receive any additional information to add to this family tree.
3 July 2001. I have added additional information on the Counsel Family supplied by Noelene Rogers, Burnie, Tasmania, who is a descendant of Peter Counsel and Ann Malone.
