Pg 5 " Our eldest known for positive ancestor was Thomas Gouldsby 1, listed as hav ing a Patent to 195 acres of land in 1685 from Edward Cowles, Sr. ...The said tract bein g a Patent formerly given to Edward Cowles for 1250 acres dated 1661 but not recorded until a fter his death and until 1711 upon the petition of Thomas Cowles, Jr. by the General Court, a nd conveyed by Cap. Thomas Cowles son and heir of the deceased Edward Cowles, Sr. Edward Co wles to Thomas Gouldsby Sr. deceased father of the said Thomas Gouldsby, Jr. in the year 168 5 and recorded 1714. This Patent was granted under Govenor Spottswood in James City County , Virginia. Notation of this Patent was on page 169, Cavaliers and Pioneers, Vol. III, p age 151, for 1695 - 1732 by: Nell M. Nugent. (Index to Patents and Land Grants in Virgini a bk. 10.)"

Court Order Book 1728-30, Book #1, Page 64: Ordered that the tithables (slaves) o f James Moss, David Clarkson, Thomas Goolsby, etc----- work the road from Tukahs' Mill Ferr y over the James River (Fluvanna River) -------."

Thomas Goolsby - 11 April, 1732 - 400 acres, New Land - for 40 shillings - on the North sid e of the south fork of the James River: alias the Fluvanna, in the County of Goochland, begin ning at a corner of the said Goolsby's land..."

Court held Thursday 10th day o f March, 1747/8 Present: Allen Howard, Thomas Ballow, Samuel Jordan, William Harris: Jur y Thomas II's Will was proven: Present: David Lewis, John Anthony must have been witnesses s to the will: The last Will and Testament of Thomas Goolsby deceased was presented in cour t by: Tabitha, widow and son William Goolsby, Exrs and Exextrix. Thomas Goolsby, (Jr. & II I ) heir at law (being the eldest son of Thomas Deceased), appeared in court and declared h e had nothing to object to in the said Will being recorded, where upon the same was proved an d admitted to probate."

"The Diary of Parson Robert Rose - Page 265. "Thomas Goolsby first lived in Go ochland Co., and his tithables assisted in clearing a road from Tuckahoe Creek Mill to the fe rry over Fluvanna (upper James) River at Manakin Town, in 1728. Nine months later they aide d in clearing a road from the Mill "to the main river road," known as Three Chop Road. Gools by patented 1200 acres on Fluvanna River in 1732. Thomas Goolsby and his wife Tabitha Goolsb y sold part of their Albemarle property (150 acres) to Leonard Ballou (was a deed of gift) i n 1740. Goolsby's Will was proved in Albemarle, March 10, 1748 by his widow and sons, Willia m and Thomas Goolsby."
