Transcribed from a letter to Ethel's sister-in-law Margaret November 6, 1985:

Dear Margaret:
Just a few lines this morning to tell you that Ethel passed away about 10 o'clock last night. As you know, she had pneumonia over a month ago andhs never picked up since.
I think I told you that I got up to see her two weeks ago last Fri. and she didn't rouse up to know I was there.
She hasn't got much out of living ever since she broke her hip about seven years ago.
Her funeral is on Sat. the 9th. Mabel and I will get up there Fri. night with Lorne and Jennene. They are staying over tillMon. So I don't know how Mabel and I will get home. We will have to get someone to look after Frank here, as he isn't able to travel up there.
You can let Mary and the rest of the family know. Please.
