Elizabeth (Bessie) Bowering (b. April 3, 1830, d. May 7, 1910)

Elizabeth (Bessie) Bowering (daughter of John Bowering and Hannah Allin) was born April 3, 1830 in Pinxton Parish, Derbyshire, England, and died May 7, 1910 in Kinmount, Ontario. She married (1) William Gale. She married (2) John Shawcroft Walwin on August 6, 1849 in Alfreton Baptist Chapel, Derbyshire, England, son of William Walwin and Elizabeth Shawcroft.

Bessie and William had one child. It was buried in the same coffin as William.

Transcribed from a letter to Lyn Tremblay from Millie Bacon dated Sunday May 26, 1985:

" . . . we moved from the old homestead to your old home, in 1906. Just a few months before I was 4 yrs. old. My Grandma Gale (mother's mother) lived with us until she died in 1910. She and her deaf retarded sister, had lived with us for a few years in the little old log house on the homestead, along with us 8 kids, mother and dad, and sometimes one or two of dads half brothers. So what a jumble that must have been. Grandma' sister Mary Ann, went to live with mother's brother William Walwin at Alton, Onario until his wife died, then she came back and lived with us, for several years until she died."

From a letter dated November 26, 1985:

" . . . as I remember Grandma Gale, she was the sweetest grandma in the world. My mother was also. Nor kissing or hugging but gentle and kind."
