Henry C. Coats (son of Jehu Coats and Mary Polly Johnson) was born October 29, 1829 in Boyd's Mill, Laurens Co. SC, and died February 13, 1910 in Blount Co. AL. He married Mary Susan Dalrymple on December 22, 1867 in Baine(Etowah) Co. AL, daughter of Henry H. Dalrymple and Hannah Smith.

Notes for Henry C. Coats:
Enlisted in Co G 18th AR Inf. at Little Rock, AR on 01-Mar-1862. Captured at Port Hudson, LA 09-Jul-1863. Exchanged and continued service guarding prisoners at prison in Cahaba,AL. Captured again and taken to Macon, GA and paroled at end of War. Listed as teamster on Confederate records.

May have operated a saloon in Etowah Co. with William Lovvins. Operated a general store at Wynnville, in Blount Co. AL
