77. Jessie L. ULIN ⁽⁶⁾ was born about 1876 in IA. ⁽⁶⁾ He has reference number 1128. CONFLICT: The 1880 IA Keokuk Co Census, lists a Jesse L. Ulin, son of A.J
Ulin Jr. and S.L. Ulin, age 4. The Cemetery Records of Keokuk County list
a Jesse L. Ulin, d. 26 Dec 1897, age 4 yrs, 5 mos, 13 das.
(I think now that Jessie L and Jesse L must be two different persons. It
should have been Jesse L. Ulin, son of U.S. and S. Ulin. Jesse L, son of
U.S. and S. Ulin was born in 1893 and died at the age of 4 years)

Jessie was town sheriff of Delta for many years. While Sheriff, he was
also quite a character. He reportedly liked the ladies and attended
cat-houses - or so the story goes. He was also a gambler and liked the
booze. During the depression, he had quite a bit of money (it seems that
it was inherited from his father). During the depression, Jessie bought
up lots of land in IA and other states, but he eventually lost it all in
back taxes. About this time, Jessie was in a bad state. He had troubles
keeping a job and at the time of his death, couldn't get a job unless he
used Virgil's name and social security number. This is according to
Virgil, who reportedly always spoke ill of Jessie.

Jessie died by getting hit by a truck. Virgil always said that the
"accident" was not an accident. They suspected a gambling debt or other
vengful person.

He was married to Mary Emma VERT (daughter of Milford VERT and Rebecca OLLOM) on 6 Aug 1896 in Keokuk Co, IA. Mary Emma VERT ⁽²⁶⁾ was born about 1879. Jessie L. ULIN and Mary Emma VERT had the following children:
