FIRST GENERATION

1. Bejamin ULIN Sr(1) Photo was born between 1785 and 1790 in VA (Greenup Co?).(2) According to the 1860 Wapello Co IA census, Benjamin was 74 years old and was born in Virginia. He was living with his daughter, Sarah, and her husband, James Skates, and their family at the time.

According to family records in the Genealogical Dept of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City UT, Benjamin was born in 1790 in Germany. According to the same, Benjamin was a miller by trade and died 3 Mar 1862 in Hardin Co OH.

According to the 1850 Hardin Co OH census, Ben Ulin was 60 years old and born in VA. This conflicts with the age given in the 1860 Wapello Co IA census, though the birth place is the same. He was buried in Mar 1862 in Hardin Co OH (?). He died on 3 Mar 1862 in Ohio (Hardin Co ?). He has reference number 1. OCCUPATION: Miller/Farmer BIOGRAPHY: Benjamin Ulin was probably illiterate as he signed his name with an "X". Born in 1790 in VA, Benjamin moved to Coshocton Co OH in 1833-34, being one of the first settlers in the township. In 1838, he erected a horse mill for grinding - which it is said that he made very good flour. All of of his children except John Perry (E)Ulin(e), moved west.

Benjamin Ulin & H.P. Darst were the 1st Deacon of the Christian church in the NW corner of section 34 of Hardin Co OH. They where later replaced by Anthony Wagoner and Andrew Ulin. Benjamin and his wife Elizabeth, Sarah, John, and Andrew and his wife were all members of this church.

There was a Benjamin Ulin who was a private in the 4th regiment (Pagues) Kentucky Volunteers during the war of 1812.

There is a "Ulin's Leap" over the Ohio River in Greenup Co, KY, named after a Benjamin Ulin, who was born in 1790. That Benjamin was an Indian fighter whose parents were killed by the Indians. Indians had him trapped on a bluff and he jumped off, breaking his fall through the trees all the way to the ground. He swam across the Ohio River and sought refuge in Daniel Boone's fort.

He was married to Elizabeth WOLFORD about 1809 in Probably PA or OH. Elizabeth WOLFORD was born between 1790 and 1795 in Unknown/Possibly PA. She died on 11 Jan 1847 in Hardin Co, OH?. She has reference number 2. Possibly spelled "WALFORD" (was Penn-Dutch) Bejamin ULIN Sr and Elizabeth WOLFORD had the following children:
