4. James Wilson WALKER (1) Photo was born on 5 Sep 1898 in South Fork Twp, Christian Co, IL.(2) (3) He resided on 16 May 1929 in Gillispie, IL.(4) Jim and Florence moved to Gillispie, IL on 16 May 1929. He died on 9 May 1981 in Granite City, Madison Co, IL.(5) Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Eugene Seaman at Irwin Chapel for Funerals in Granite City, Illinois. Jim was buried in Brush Creek Cemetary, Divernon, Illinois two days later.
He was buried on 11 May 1981 in Brush Creek Cem, Divernon, Sangamon Co, IL. (6)(7) Located on the 1920 census for Sangamon Co, IL. He, and his new wife, were living with his parents. At the time of the census, he was working as a farm laborer, on his fathers farm.

Prior to 1925 Jim was a pig farmer in Virden, Illinois. In 1925, he lost all of his hogs to cholera. Florence and Jim moved to town and got a job in Brunc's grocery store in Virden. In 1928 he moved to Gillespie and worked in a local grocery store there. His boss was terrible to work for and put him down in front of the customers and constantly belittled him. Jim quit a couple of weeks before Christmas, on 6 December 1935.

In 1936 he went to work in Gillespie for Tri-City Grocery Co. He was made a manager and transferred to Granite City, Illinois to the 20th and State Street store. A new A&P store moved in, causing a loss of business and Tri-City fired him in 1940/41. The family then moved to Alton and Jim managed a small old fashioned walk-up-to-the-counter grocery store, the last of its kind. Jim, Florence, and Marvel Mayhall all worked there. When Kroger's opened a new supermarket, the first of its kind in Alton, Illinois, Jim was made the produce manager and Florence was the cheese department manager, Marvel worked as a checker. Florence and Marvel were sent to school at the Kroger bakery in St. Louis, Missouri to learn how to operate the new cash registers in March of 1947.

In 1948 Jim went to work for a man who was engaged in questionalbe activities. Jim sat in the office to answer the phone and was paid $100 a week, big money in those days. The phone never rang and he asked no questions.

In 1949 Jim and Florence moved to Granite City and bought a small neighborhood market in the Community Heights area. When he retired from the grocery business Jim went to work as
a drivers license examiner for the State of Illinois.

Jim was a member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, Illinois. He also belonged to Masonic Lodge 877 and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was intiated as a 33rd degree Mason.

He was married to Florence Irene MCKINNEY on 10 Dec 1919 in Divernon, Sangamon Co, IL.(8) (9) They were married by T.B. Wright, and the witnesses were Clell and Wava Hildreth.

5. Florence Irene MCKINNEY (10) Photo was born on 18 Aug 1901 in Virden, Macoupin Co, IL.(11) She died on 15 Mar 1989 in Granite City, Madison Co, IL. She was buried on 17 Mar 1989 in Brush Creek Cem, Divernon, Sangamon Co, IL. (12) Member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, Illinois.

Located on 1920 census for Sangamon Co, IL. She was newly married, and living with her in-laws, on their farm.
Children were:

child i. Myrtle Marie WALKER was born on 2 Apr 1921 in Virden, Macoupin Co, IL. (8)(13) She was ill with Chicken Pox on 4 Jan 1931 in Gillispie, IL.(14) She died on 14 Oct 1990 in North Platt, NE. Died while returning from a trip to see her new grandson.
She was buried in Cremated. She was not buried. Her ashes were disposed of by the funeral home performing the cremation.
She was also known as Marie.
child ii. Mary Eillen WALKER was born on 21 Feb 1923.(8) She died on 5 May 1923. She was buried in Brush Creek Cem, Divernon, Sangamon Co, IL.(15)
