He was christened in 1138 in Germany. He Ruled Germany between 1138 and 1152.
(1542) Conrad III of the House of Hohenstaufen,
grandson of Henry IV of the Franconian line, came to rule Germany. He succeeded
Lothair II of Saxony in 1138. Conrad III ruled until 1152, and was succeeded
by his nephew Frederick I called the Barbarossa. He Crusader in 1147 in Holy

(1544) Conrad III Hohenstaufen, Holy Roman Emperor from Germany, took
an army and headed for the Holy Land on the crusade instigated by Pope Eugenius
III aabout 1147. The crusade was a disaster - a total failure. The Germans
were defeated. Some 500,000 men from France and Germany were assembled. The
French under Louis VII went one route and, and the Germans another. They actually
achieved nothing and lost most of the Crusaders to starvation, disease, and battle
wounds. He died in 1152 in Germany. He was also known as The Waiblinger. |
