54. James BAKER⁽²⁰³⁾ was born on 15 Apr 1799 in Virginia. He died on 2 Oct 1858 in Greene Co, IL.⁽⁴⁹⁾ James is listed on the 1850 census for Greene Co, IL with his wife and four of their children. He was a carpenter.
He was married to Mary WELLS on 5 Dec 1839 in Greene Co, IL. ^{(204)(205) (206)} A letter of consent is on file with the County Clerks office, Greene Co, IL. The letter reads as follows, and is signed by her father, Phillip Wells:

"It is hereby certified that my daughter Mary Wells, is of age. I hereby concent that the cleark of the county Commifsioners court may lshew License to join in matrimony the above mentioned Mary Wells and James Baker, both of the county of Green and State of Illinois. Given By me this December 3rd, 1839. <Signed> Phillip Wells"

55. Mary WELLS ⁽²⁰³⁾ was born in 1821 in Tennessee. Mary is listed on the 1850 census for Greene Co, IL with her husband, and four of their children. The family of Samuel Wells is living next to them. This is probably a brother, or a cousin, to Mary.

After the death of James Baker, Mary married Jacob Butcher in July of 1864. Children were:

i. Lucinda BAKER was born in Nov 1840 in Illinois.
ii. Mary Belle BAKER was born on 2 May 1842 in Illinois. She died on 14 Aug 1842 in Illinois.
iii. Samuel BAKER was born on 18 Jun 1843 in Illinois.
iv. Sylvester BAKER was born on 8 Apr 1845 in Illinois. He died on 9 Apr 1845 in Illinois.
v. Asariah BAKER⁽²⁰⁷⁾ was born on 1 Jun 1846 in Illinois. An Azariah Baker mustered in to Co K, 91st Illinois Infantry on 11 Feb 1864 as a private and was discharged on 2 July 1864.

vi. John BAKER was born on 16 Jan 1849 in Illinois. He died on 10 Jan 1867.
vii. James BAKER Jr. was born on 31 Jul 1852 in Illinois. He died on 15 Aug 1853.
viii. Margaret Jane BAKER was born on 17 Jan 1855 in Illinois.

x. Seith Elirey L. BAKER died on 28 Feb 1895.
