5. MARY MARGUERITE4 THARPE (LAURA3 GALLAVAN, JOHN PATRICK2, JOHN1). She married JOE GRAUMAN STUART 1929, son of WALTER STUART and ELIZABETH MARTIN.

OE GRAUMAN STUART:
Joe Grauman was born in 1907. He quit high school at age 17, but then went to a Business University in Bowling Green, KY and took a 2-year business course and received a diploma after finishing the course. He then went to work at Consolidated Coal Company in Jenkins, KY in December 1927 and stayed there until 1928. He went to work for his father's general store and worked there until 1932. Joe Grauman married Mary Marguerite Tharpe from Rowletts, KY in 1929 at age 21. They lived in Rowletts with Laura Tharpe, Marguerite's mother, in 1929. In 1930, they moved to Joe's father's farm on Green River, and worked on the farm for a year and sold tobacco for $.07 a pound in Shelbyville, KY. In 1931, the "Dust Bowl of Kansas" happened and Grauman and Marguerite gave up farming and went back to the grocery store to work for his father, Walker from 1931 until March 1932 when they came to Frankfort, KY with the Lafoon Administration. Grauman worked as an auditor with Dan Talbert as State Auditor. He then proceeded to work for the Highway Department as Financial Manager until 1943 when he was drafted into World War II. Most of his war time was spent as MP in Washington until 1945. He then came back to Horse Cave and farmed for 5 years and worked at a tobacco warehouse. After which he went into the construction business for about 12-15 years. In 1967. he left Horse Cave and came back to Frankfort as an architect's inspector on the Capital Plaza Hotel and Tower. He died May 27, 1993.
