Hannah Webster (sister of Stephen) who married Michael Emerson is the
mother of the Hannah Emerson who married Thomas Dustin and was captured by the
Indians and taken to an island in the Merrimac River. There she killed and scalped
her captors, ten Indians in all, and escaped in a canoe, bringing the scalps,
for which she received a large bounty, to Haverhill. The marriage of Hannah
Webster to Michael Emerson is the first recorded marriage of a Webster in Haverhill.
Date April 1, 1657. Stephen died 1694.

...Stephen, a tailor came into town soon after and is probably the ancestor of
the Websters in this place.
He was born in Ipswich and moved with his mother, who married John Emery, Sr.
to Newbury. He had three brothers and four sisters. His brothers John and Israel
remained in Newbury. Nathan settled in Bradford. The descendents of Stephen
are numerous and they are scattered in almost every part of the Union. The marriage
of Michael Emerson to HANNAH WEBSTER was to be the first on record of any oth
the name of WEBSTER. They were married April 1, 1657. She was a sister of Stephen.
Hannah and Michael's daughter Hannah married Thomas Duston, Dec. 3.1677 and
was the woman taken be the Indians and carried up the Merrimack River to the
extreme part of Concord, N.H. where she with Widow Mary Neff and Samuel Leanardson
killed ten Indians while they were asleep, scalped them and returned to Haverhill.

The inhabitants grew more alarmed on account of the Indians and in 1690 six garrisons
were appointed and ordered to be kept in a state of defence. The first was commanded
by Sargeant John Hazeltine, the second be Sgt. John Webster, has brother Stephen
was with him. The third was commanded be Sgt. Jonathan Emerson, the fourth by
James Ayer, the fifth by Joseph Bradley and the sixth by Capt. John White.
He was married to Hannah Ayer on Mar 24 1662 or 1663 in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
