The Wertman family as well as the Grover, Sheldon, Babcock, Crews, Oliver, and many others are families that have a rich and storied history. There are Colonels and Captains in the Revolutionary war Many Civil war veterans and one (possibly two) lines that have their American origins on the Mayflower. The above are my families of interest. The Wertman family came from Germany to NY and Pa. My line settled in Aberdeen,So Dakota
My parents moved to Mn and then to Ca. I currently live in Texas.
The Grovers came to Mass from England. My line went from RI to Conn to NY before finally settleing in Waterville Mn. Marriage took my Fathers mother to Aberdeen So Dak.
The Sheldons came to Mass and spent several generations in CT and Vt before moving to Minn in the mid 1800's where my grgrandfath Grover married Ida Belle Sheldon.
My Babcocks came to America around the time of the Mayflower. In fact at the time of his death, James Babcock,Sr was living in the Plymouth Colony, Mass. in 1660. That family stayed in and around Mass for almost 200 years, moving to Minn in the mid 1800's. My grandmother's grandfather Myron Styles Sheldon married Mary Ellen Babcock to end my Babcock line.
The Crews line Starts in MO in the late 1700's and moves to Ca 50 years later. Several stories of historical significance come from this and adjoining lines. My mother has 3 sisters so my Crews line ended with them.
The Oliver line is from my wife's mother. I'm just beginning to research this line but it'sa very large family and is almost entirerly in Texas.
