He was born Abt. 1910 in Cassville, Missouri, and died Abt. 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married (2) ROY DENNIS TERRY April 05, 1947 in Oswego, Kansas, son of WESLEY TERRY and EDNA BOYD. He was born November 12, 1910 in Butterfield, Barry County, Missouri, and died October 31, 1987 in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri.

Born in Kansas to George Daniel COCHREN and Annie Brythel BROWN. She married Melvin M. PRIEST and had children Melvin D., Carol, Helen, Lou PRIEST. She married next Roy and had children Gary, Dennis, and Marilyn TERRY.

Her grandfather, Newton Jasper COCHREN served in the 80th Indiana Volunteers in the Civil War and was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga in Tennessee.
Her great-grandfather Ptolemy Philadelphius BROWN also served in the Civil War scouting Confederate positions in the Boston Mountains of Arkansas.

Late in life Velma began writing poetry and had several volumes of poetry published.

Notes for ROY DENNIS TERRY:
A log cabin in the Ozarks was the birthplace of Roy. The family home had burned and his father built a temporary log cabin while the new house was being built. Roy used to say the only difference between George Washington and himself was that " George was President."

Roy worked for Boeing Aircraft for over twenty years at their Wichita location helping to build various military craft, space craft, and several "Air Force One" planes.

Roy's grandfather, John King TERRY, was a very respected man in his home located in Barry Co., MO. He held several civic positions and was a leader. John King TERRY served in the Civil War in the area of south Missouri and northern Arkansas. John's father and siblings during that time were going back and forth trying to avoid one army or the other. In the process several children took ill and died.
