| Whipple is an old immigrant name, going back to the first colonists that came to America. Our family tree can be traced back to John Whipple in Ipswich. My great-great-grandfather, Seneca Prosser Whipple, somehow ended up in Michigan. It appears that his father, David, moved the family west from Cattaragus County in New York State sometime in the early 1840's. His son, my great-grandfather, James Albert, moved his young family to the Clayton, New Mexico area in 1908. Clayton is in Union County and close to the panhandle of Oklahoma. My grand-father, James "LEE" Whipple returned to Michigan, where most of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren still reside. Unfortunately, as with many families, much of the family history, stories and pictures have disappeared with the passing of family members. This page is a work in progress, one which I hope will continue to be added to by missing family members and the young Whipple's listed within the page. If you have any leads and/or information that would help fill in some gaps, please feel free to e-mail me. |
