Notes for D
AVID WHIPPLE:
David Whipple can be traced back to the 1840 census for Cattaragus County in New York. He then appears in the 1845 census of Oakland county (see the scanned text). He next appears in the 1850 census records for Oakland county (OABR 341R). He is listed as a 49 year old farmer with his property being valued at $1000. His wife Sarah is listed as being 57 and they have 3 children named at the residence. Horace, a 21 year old carpenter, Simeon, a 16 year old farmer and Sarah A, 14 years old and all show NY as their birth place. Seneca Prosser would be 17 years old and is not listed as living in the home at this time. It is possible that he is working as a laborer at another farm and more time will be invested to find out his whereabouts in 1850.

The 1860 census finds David as a 59 year old farmer whose property value his increased to $2000 with $500 worth of personal property listed. His entry is on pg 780, with the dwelling listed as #1276 and the family listed as #1272. SP is also listed as a 27 year old farmer with the same property/personal amounts. He is the husband with 25 year old Alice from England listed as his wife. They have two sons listed; 4 year old Alvin and 1 year old Frank, both being born in Michigan. A Horace C. Whipple is listed on page 58C of the Ionia County census rolls.

Land owned by David is noted in the Oakland County 1857 book of Plat Descriptions as "Brandon Township--township North, range 9 East" and shows him owning 90 acres. He evidentally bought the land as he is not found/listed in the first owners listing for any land in Brandon township.

David disappears from the 1870 census and his exact death date and place of burial will be searched out.
