James traveled all over the Santa Fe. system, replacing operators who
were sick or on vacation. If he were going to be there over a month,
Irene and the children would go with him. The whole family would travel
in a special freight car equipped with a stove for cooking food. Hames
Hillis said there were no hotels or restaurants for travelers in small
towns in Texas, so the familyhad to take every thing they needed. When
times were tough, Irene, James, Imogene and Billy Ray stayed on Irene's
parents' (the Browns) farm.

Eventually the family settled in Moody, TX where James Roy was the
stationmaster.[2271980 des.ged]
