James and Jeirenne were married at midnight on July 1, 1942, by the
waterfall in Tonkawa Park. The wedding was scheduled for sunset, but
James could notget a pass to leave the Army base. He sent Jeirenne a
telegram telling her to postpone the wedding one day, but she never
received it. By the time James arrived and sorted things out it was
midnight. Sue Vest remembers attending the wedding at about age 5. She
sat in a tree so that she could see over all the people.

Jimmy was drafted into the service and Jeirenne stayed in Crawford with
her parents, visiting with when she could. He got into the Army Air
Force Cadet School and entered the war as an officer.
Jeirenne was 5 months pregnant when James went off to war, possibly to
never return.

Their first son Michael died when James was still overseas. His letters
to her gave his love and repeated concern again and again.

James completed his Masters in Chemistry and got a job as Head of the
Physics and Chemistry Department atLeTourneau Junior College in
Longview, Texas.

In 1948, James decided hewas not happy teaching. He wanted to be a
physician. His younger brother had suffered with polio- which was still
very much a fersome disease. His son had died of birth defects. He
himself had malaria that occasionally recurred. His wife had disabling
headaches. He told his son later that he decided to be a doctor "because
it seemed to me they did a lot of good." He was accepted into Baylor
University College of Medicine in Houston, TX. After graduation, James
did special ENT and Surgical Training in San Antonio, Texas.

In 1954, James, Jeirenne, Rondy, Holly and Jan moved to Denton, TX,
where James joined a medical group run by Dr. Walter Hinkle: Denton
Medical Surgical Group on Normal Street.

James was responsible for moving 80 physicians to Denton County. He
built Denton Regional Hospital, and five physician office complexes. He
built two homes for the mentally retarded and a nursing home. The
medical care Denton County residents get today is due, in large part, to
James Hollis Jones MD.

These notes are taken from a book compiled by their chidren at the time
of Jeirenne's death.[2271980 des.ged]
