FIFTH GENERATION

37. John WOODY III ^(1)(16) was born in 1715 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. He died in Apr 1763 in Orange Co., NC. Born in Mass, moves to Baltimore, Maryland, and then to the Haw River near Snow Camp, North Carolina. Known as the ferryman - built and operated a ferry across the Haw River that was used during the Revolutionary War. His property on the Haw River is still owned by descendents.

He was married to Mary LINDLEY (daughter of James LINDLEY and Eleanor PARKE) on 27 Dec 1738 in Baltimore, MD.⁽¹⁷⁾ Entry reads:

27 December 1738 John Woodey to Mary Lynsey Mary LINDLEY⁽¹⁾ was born on 4 Nov 1717 in Chester Co., PA. She died on 21 May 1795 in Blount Co., TN. ⁽¹⁸⁾ Buried at Friendsville Cemetery. Mary's family were Quakers. Mary was disowned for marrying outside of the faith (unity). This according to the New Garden Monthly Meeting, Chester Co., PA, pgs. 280-282. Source Juanita Reiger.

Mary probably lived with son John (IV) and his family. John moved from Orange Co.,NC, to Blount Co., TN, to Roane Co., TN.

Mary is believed to have died in Blount Co, TN and is buried there.
