My fondest memories of my childhood were spent at my grandparent's home. Every Sunday after church everyone always went to Mammy and Granddaddy's house. While the adults visited, the children would play and enjoy each others company. From the time I was a little girl until today, our family has always had a unique bond. My cousins always felt more like sisters and brothers. After Granddaddy had a heart attack, I went to stay with them for a year where I attended school. Granddaddy always had a rough sounding voice but he was a gentle giant. I remember sitting on the front porch with him every day rocking, singing gospel songs, and talking. He always kept a journal and everyday he would write something about his day. He was superintendent of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He and Mammy always stayed at Pawleys Island, SC during hay fever season and that is where he died. He told us about seeing the Gray Ghost one time before a hurricane. Those were the days when life was slow and simple. That was when the little things meant so much. As they say, those were the good old days.
