Includes NotesNotes for Robert Levell (R.L.) Port:
R.L. was the baby of the family and always took care of Mammy and Granddaddy Port. He worked with Wellman Industries in Johnsonville from high school until his retirement with them. He was over the lanolin plant. He has a restaurant called R.L.'s Place in Pleasant Hill, SC that is only open on Sunday. He has people come from all over for his home cooking. He makes everything from scratch and has different family members who help him. He used to come to see us in Georgetown usually once a week. He always gave us each a nickle or dime to go buy whatever we wanted from the store. Of course, we all thought he was rich because he always had money. He used to love to drive convertible cars. He has always been involved in politics and has been an important part of Farm Bureau for as long as I can remember. He is another one of my uncles that you can always depend on when you need him. His wife, Linda, passed away in October, 2002 from lung cancer and he was an excellent nurse to her during this time.
