Grant was an assistant Golf Pro at Rancho Public Golf Course before joining the service. After graduating from Air Corp Technical School he was a Technical Sergeant in the 2nd Antisub Squadron. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal after his bomber crashed into a mountain side in Wales. He and 9 others were returning from an anti-submarine patrol. He is buried in Cambridge, England. His mother Florence then became a member of Gold Star Mothers, American. The name derives from the former family practice of sewing a gold star on an American flag to honor a relation killed in action. The national organization is for mothers who lost children in combat with the armed forces.
